Education that nurtures the whole child — head, heart, and hands.
At Mindful Journey Academy, our curriculum is inspired by Waldorf education and guided by the understanding that children learn best when learning is meaningful, experiential, and developmentally aligned.
We honor the natural stages of childhood by integrating academics with movement, creativity, nature, and real-world skills.

A Waldorf-Inspired Journey Through the Grades
At Mindful Journey Academy, learning unfolds in immersive main lesson blocks supported by regular skill practice, artistic work, and meaningful time outdoors. Our curriculum meets children where they are developmentally and grows with them year by year.
Learning through play, rhythm, and imitation
Kindergarten nurtures the young child's sense of wonder, security, and joy in movement. Through imitation and play, children develop coordination, language, social awareness, and a deep connection to nature.
Entering formal learning through imagination
First graders are ready to step gently into formal learning. Imagination is still the gateway, and lessons build confidence, memory, and a love of learning while strengthening fine motor skills and focus.
Balancing wonder and growing awareness
Second grade supports children as they begin to recognize both strengths and challenges within themselves. Stories of humor and virtue guide moral development, while academics grow in structure and skill.
Finding security and practical skills
Around age nine, children seek grounding and reassurance. Third grade offers practical, hands-on learning that helps children feel capable, secure, and connected to the physical world.
Exploring independence and the wider world
Fourth graders awaken to a stronger sense of individuality. Learning becomes more detailed and skill-based, while mythology and nature studies help them understand both inner and outer worlds.
Harmony, beauty, and the ancient world
Fifth grade is often a time of balance and grace. Students deepen academic skills while exploring beauty, proportion, and harmony in history, nature, and the arts.
Cause and effect, structure, and lawfulness
Sixth graders begin to think more logically and seek understanding of rules and order. Learning emphasizes cause and effect, responsibility, and growing independence in both thinking and work habits.
Exploration, transformation, and human ingenuity
Seventh grade supports the emotional and intellectual changes of early adolescence. Students explore transformation, discovery, and innovation while developing deeper reasoning and self-expression.
Integration, responsibility, and preparation for high school
Eighth grade brings integration and maturity. Students are guided toward independent thinking, responsibility, and confidence as they prepare for the transition to high school and the wider world.
In addition to main lessons, students experience:
✨ Our curriculum nurtures the head, heart, and hands — supporting each child's academic growth, creativity, confidence, and connection to the world.
At Mindful Journey Academy, learning unfolds through rhythm and relationship, not bells and constant transitions.
Each day and week follows a predictable flow that helps children feel safe, grounded, and ready to learn.
Morning arrival, grounding, and connection

Reflection, storytelling, and closing rhythms
This consistent structure allows children to relax into learning, build confidence, and engage fully — without pressure or overstimulation.
"If a child has been able to play, to give up his whole, loving being to the world around him, he will be able in the serious tasks of later life to devote himself with power and confidence to the service of the world."
Rudolf Steiner
Founder of Waldorf education
Academic subjects are taught through integrated blocks that allow students to explore topics deeply, creatively, and with purpose.
Mindful Journey Academy is intentionally screen-free. We believe imagination, human connection, and hands-on experience are foundational to healthy development.
Technology is introduced thoughtfully and developmentally, honoring the needs of the growing child.
Our curriculum evolves with the child from Kindergarten through eighth grade, meeting students where they are developmentally while preparing them academically and socially for the future.

Be heard. Be supported. Be you.
At Mindful Journey Academy, emotional development is an essential part of whole-child education. Students participate regularly in guided mindfulness and emotional-skills sessions during the school day, providing a safe space to explore feelings, build communication skills, and strengthen healthy peer relationships.
Exploring feelings in a safe, nonjudgmental space
Learning calming tools and problem-solving strategies
Building confidence and clear communication
Strengthening social skills and peer relationships
Understanding and managing "big feelings"
Practicing respectful boundary-setting
Sessions are led by Madeline Sheets, LMHC, LPC, a licensed mental health professional experienced in working with children. These sessions are educational and community-based, designed to support all students in developing emotional awareness and healthy relationships — not therapy, but skill-building that benefits the whole child.
Movement, confidence, and joyful physical learning
We partner with Amazing Athletes to bring engaging, movement-based classes into our curriculum. Physical activity supports strength, coordination, confidence, cooperation, and resilience — all essential parts of whole-child development. Each month, students are introduced to a new sport, learning its basic skills, rules, and strategies through practice and play. Along the way, they also explore which muscle groups they are using, helping them build body awareness and understand how movement supports overall health.
This year, we are partnering with Mr. Robbie from Amazing Athletes to bring an exciting Pentathlon experience to our students in the spring.
Students will practice events such as:
We hope to invite other schools to join us for a joyful, collaborative athletic celebration that emphasizes sportsmanship, courage, and fun.
Monthly Equine Therapy & Horsemanship
Once a month, students join Equine Therapy & Horsemanship—part of our curriculum connecting head, heart, and hands.
This partnership with the Myrtle Beach Therapeutic Riding & Vaulting Club in Loris, SC, led by Ms. Amy and her team, helps students cultivate confidence, empathy, and balance.
Equine Adventure Days are included in tuition for MJA students. Community members and visitors are welcome to participate for a fee.

We prepare children to meet the world with confidence.
"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire."
